The Kay Family's Classic TT Racing Career
In 1983, after his beloved MV was stolen in Italy, never to be seen again, Dave Kay told the jounalist Jim Reynolds "Some day I will build an MV GP machine and win an Isle of Man TT". After 31 years of work, dreams and many failures, Dave's greatest ambition was realised in August 2014. It was achieved when rider Lee Johnston took the win and archived the new lap record for the class, of 105.239mph, on a race MV constructed by Mark Kay in the 350 Classic TT.
Although this was not the first - or the last - significant success on the Isle of Man, it was definitely one which gave great satisfaction and cause for celebration in the Kay family. The following year, there were even more thrills for the Black Eagle Racing Team. The pages below record some of the milestones in this long and exciting journey, as recorded in the racing press.
